Has Twitter increased the use of texting while driving? What do you think? Photo credit: SpinVox Blog
Call it efficient. Call it multi-tasking. Either way, twittering while driving, i.e., textweeting, has become quite the addictive habit in recent months. With all the technological gadgets of today like blackberrys and iPhones, we practically have computers and tweets growing out of our palms.
According to a recent article on Social Media Explorer, Nationwide Insurance & Harris Interactive found that 80% of Americans favor restriction on cell phone use while driving. The dilemma here is that the study also showed a significant increase in the use of cell phones while driving in specifically the past 12 months.
Even though people know that textweeting is not a smart idea to do while driving, they have or probably will do it at least once or twice, if not more. However, recent developments such as local state laws are being passed to help curtail the texting frenzy. At least 23 states so far have ordained this texting ban including fines of up to $150.
To all you textweeting addicts out there, there is a solution: SpinVox – the talking email/texter. Speak your email and text. Chances are, this speech-to-text technology might just help you remain between the lines better while driving. But some are skeptical that even this won’t eliminate the risk.
Is textweeting and speaking emails equally dangerous or is one idea safer than the other? Tell us what you think here.
